Milford Explorer

Today bright and early after about 2 hours of sleep...we boarded the bus to Milford Sound. The ride takes us into Fjiordland National Park with gorgeous views of farmland, mirrored lakes, tons of waterfalls, lots of forests and mountains. Justin is our leader today...watching all of us sleep in the way over and making fun of us!!

We arrived at Milford Sound and hopped on a boat for a cruise in the sound out to the sea. It is a beautiful day and the mountains rise out of the sea straight up, it is impossible to even photograph as we are so "amongst it". We see seals sunbathing and diving off the rocks, the penguins and dolphins are hiding today....Just can't stop smiling....

We cruise under a huge waterfall and feel the mist and then head down a small inlet and hop off at an underwater observatory where we walk down under the sea and find all the living things in view under the cold sea.

After the boat we hop back on with Justin and head on out of the Fjords. I didn't mention the Homer Tunnel, kinda like the eisenhauer tunnel in colorado in that it goes thru a mountain...but this thing is long and 1 lane, and pitch dark, and appears to be unfinished...it is just a semi-circle of raw exposed rock, heading at a sharp downward angle...very interesting...the views on either side...amazing. Long day, but pretty incredible.
