Memphis, Step Pyramid and the Nile

So we traveled 12 miles west of Cairo, along the gorgeous canal..and we got to see the houses in Cairo, they are brick, square buildings, with unfinished top floors..they leave them unfinished in case more family members move in and they need to add another floor!! Seriously!! they are all left open.. very ugly and institutional. In all the yards..trash..the whole yard is just covered in bags of trash spread all over, there is no grass, no flowers, no parks..just trash..everywhere it looks like the dump everywhere you look. We asked the guide if they don't have trash service, they do, they just don't care.

On to Memphis, the ancient city, once the capital of Egypt, now just a few spread out ruins remain. The huge statue laying down is The Colossus of Ramses. Also in Memphis, the alabaster sphinx and a lovely garden with ruins , a small haven in the hell hole of Cairo.

On we go to the Step Pyramid and downtown Cairo...more of the same..and a view of the mighty Nile. The best part of Cairo has to be the Nile and the land surrounding it.. Take a look.
